Berenike
Embroidery
Berenike is a visual artist specialized in textiles and fibers, whose work is deeply linked to themes of spirituality, identity and the environment. Berenike has a strong background in fashion design and textiles, having completed her master’s degree in menswear at the Institut Français de la Mode in Paris in 2020 and her diploma in fashion design with print at Central Saint Martins in London in 2019.
Her artistic practice evolved through various residencies in Panama, Chile and the Canary Islands, which inspired her to adopt more artistic and environmentally-friendly approaches to textile and fiber arts. Berenike’s work is a reflection on her spiritual journey, in which she uses ancestral craft techniques such as sewing, collage, painting and embroidery as a form of creative ritual. Her art blends the syncretism of indigenous spirituality with the Catholic religious structures of her native Peru, while exploring other spiritual practices and the natural elements.
Berenike’s career in the art world began to make a name for itself in 2020 when she took part in her first group show at Brigade Gallery in Copenhagen. She continued to collaborate with Brigade Gallery, creating the Taroracle card collection in 2021 and organizing her first solo exhibition in 2022. In 2023, she took part in her second group show, “Splendid Silent Sun”, for the Market Artfair in Stockholm, Sweden.
